LITERARY CHARACTER AS THE PRIMARY CONCERN OF THE NARRATIVE
Keywords:
књижевни јунак, роман, карактеризацијаAbstract
The paper deals with various functions literary characters perform within the narrative. It focuses upon three novels, which differ in form and substance to a great extent. While Wide sargasso sea by Jean rhys rewrites a literary classic, The Master by colm toibin turns the major facts of a literary biography into fiction. The Curiosity Shop by goran petrović empowers the process of reading by turning the narrative text into a parallel dimension of existence. Those three novels share the paradoxical effect their protagonists are bound to achieve: although knowingly borrowed from either life or a preexistent literary text, the characters have to function as independent and unique.
