LA DOULEUR EXQUISE: A THEORY OF THE INVISIBLE

Using the basic premises of psychoanalytical theories developed by Sigmund Freud, Jacques ...ciples of anthroponomastic analysis to the text, the paper reexamines the (sub)textual meaning of Paul Auster’s novel Invisible. By examining the formal structure and thematic scope of the novel, the paper attempts to determine the degree to which the afore mentioned theoretical systems can be applied to the novel, the special focus being placed on the problem of theoretical understanding and literal representation of the following concepts: symptom and pain.
