JOURNALIST COPYRIGHT AND AN ATTEMPT OF ITS DENIAL

The paper deals with the problem of the media legislation as regulated by the Public Information Act of the Republic of Serbia, or, more precisely, with the copyright protection of Serbian journalists as defined by the Copyright Act. The paper first defines copyright as part of intellectual property and explains its application to the journalist profession, provides examples of exceptions from copyright protection, and eventually gives a short overview of the development of copyright in Serbia. The focus of discussion is further directed towards the problem of copyright journalists’ rights in modern times. The end of the paper discusses a current issue in Serbia, the new Outline of the Copyright Act, which offers a poor solution of copyright protection of journalists and has been a subject of numerous public discussions.
